Abstract
This paper presents a technical analysis on live P2P streaming techniques. The paper provides an overview on existing P2P solutions with more focus on solutions proposed for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH). DASH is currently the state of the art protocol for adaptive streaming. The paper highlights the gains and challenges of live P2P streaming and discusses how P2P streaming serves as an attractive solution for video streaming and broadcasting in high density traffic. The paper describes in deeper detail some of the recently introduced techniques for live P2P video streaming and discusses how clients share their downloaded content in more efficient ways thus offloading content servers and communication networks. This paper illustrates the various challenges associated with P2P video streaming and provides a comparison between existing solutions.
