Abstract :
Nowadays, the number of cellular mobile phone users is getting increased. Consequently, the size of cells is getting decreased in order to increase the network capacity. It can be predicted that the traffic of location updating and paging, which are responsible for a major part of signaling traffic in this networks, will increase. Therefore, the mobility management algorithm in which the two topics location updating and paging are well presented is one of the most important and most critical issues in such networks. In this paper, after trying some the proposed methods, a new mobility management algorithm for cellular networks is proposed. It can dynamically extract the location areas and paging areas for all users, based on their profile. The user profiles include location area residence probability, cell residence probability, number of inter-location-area movements, and call arrival rate, which are all kept in the form of matrices each of which corresponds to its own user in the system. Results of deploying the proposed mobility management algorithm along the simulation indicate that the number of user location updating and also the average number of paged cells is decreased. Consequently, the total cost of signal transactions in the network is remarkably reduced compared to the static approach.
