Abstract :
A joint project was undertaken by Digital´s Paris Research Laboratory and the Systems Research Center in Palo Alto, USA, to seek novel techniques to support software development over a wide-area network. The specific goal was to present the image of a single shared software repository to researchers at both sites, with a minimum of interactive delay due to transatlantic communications. The system, called the Siphon, which emerged from this effort is described
