Abstract :
Dependability means ensuring the quality of a product over a period of time, i.e. from the moment the product leaves the factory to the end of its life. Many engineers and technicians make use of methods some of which form part of the dependability process. We discuss the methods used and the way in which they are organised. It is concluded that dependability should be formulated and implemented as early as possible, by favouring simple solutions and selecting recognized technologies. It is also used later to assist in the implementation of a production tool that is adapted and reliable. A reliable production process can be achieved by using process analyses that clearly illustrate the functions and risks. By reducing the latter, the production cycle will improve and the number of rejected items will diminish
