Abstract :
The authors report results from two 1.8 m long dipoles built as part of the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) R&D program. These images contain design changes made on both the 1.8 m and the full-length 17 m dipoles to improve quench performance, magnetic field uniformity, and manufacturability. The magnets reach 8 T with little training. The magnet design and construction-including cable, coil, coil assembly and collaring, and yoke and shell-are described. Test results given include quench data, stress measurements, and field strength and multipoles
