Abstract
A layered communication system generator is proposed for automatic implementation of various layered communication systems. The layered communication system generator is established based on a generalized communication system framework. A layered communicating finite state machine (L_CFSM) is introduced to specify the layered communication systems. A matrix approach combined with reachability analysis is used for protocol validation. The authors have established the proposed layered communication system generator on DOS and UNIX environments, in which several real-world protocols from DoD and IEEE 802 protocol standards organizations have been successfully developed
