Abstract
Hybrid pixel detector arrays that convert X-ray photons directly into electrical signal are still at the developmental stage for application to digital mammography. In this work, image performance of cadmium zinc telluride detector for digital mammography was investigated by the aid of Monte Carlo simulation. In order to evaluate the proposed detection system, a simulation of X-ray photon transport in the sensor material was conducted using the extended version of the Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNPX) code. Detection quantum efficiency of the system was calculated and a comparison with other clinically available systems is reported.
