Abstract
The application of observers on electrical machines is an interesting field for many reasons. It is shown that the quality of time discrete observers is significantly influenced by the choice of reference frame. It is further influenced by order of discretisation and sampling time. An observer in synchronous reference frame is the best choice. Simulation results are supported by laboratory measurements in steady state and during transients.
