Abstract :
Torque ripples created by motors and induced into the mechanical drive train can strongly interfere with the operational equipment. Torque ripples produced by standard motors as well as variable speed drive systems are described and compared, together with their interactions with and influences to the driven mechanical systems. Necessary steps to achieve safe operation and criteria for the proper drive system selection are presented. The main drive categories to be compared are: DC; LCI; CSI; PWM; and cycloconverters
