Abstract :
It is shown in this work that the Slow Switching Limit (SSL) losses in a Switched-Capacitor Voltage Regulator (SCVR) has limited validity. This important metric of SCVR performance was derived with the assumption of constant, ripple free, output voltage. However, for a typical SCVR output voltage signal with ripples, it is shown here that the actual losses are significantly less than the SSL loss prediction. It is shown that the loss in this case depends primarily on the switch resistance and approaches the SSL losses as the ripples are controlled.
