Describes the structural failures in the RMS Titanic and the roˆle of brittle fracture in her steel plates that contributed to her loss on 14-15 April 1912. The conclusions reached are based upon five expeditions to the wreck site over a period of eight years, commencing with the Ballard-Michel expedition in 1985
