  • Abstract
Properties of Raman amplifiers and applications to 1.3-μm wavelength transmission systems are discussed. The recent advent of high-power pump sources make Raman amplifiers a realistic device with attractive properties such as good noise performance and, very importantly, wavelength flexibility
