Abstract
This paper is concerned with a numerical procedure to estimate two parameters, amplitude modification factor alpha and propagation order of distance beta, for the electromagnetic (EM) propagation in complicated environments. These parameters are key quantities when we estimate the field distributions along random rough surface (RRS) by use of 1-ray model. The former parameter alpha can be evaluated by the visual planar angles of illuminated lines in 1D case, and similarly in 2D case, it can be evaluated by the visual solid angles of illuminated planes. The latter parameter beta can be estimated by the source antenna height, which is much the same as EM propagation in urban and suburban areas. In this paper we compare the field distributions obtained by the two methods, 1-ray model and discrete ray tracing method (DRTM), in order to demonstrate availability of the proposed parameter estimation procedure.
