Abstract :
We present a simulation study of a number of dynamic scheduling policies with QoS guarantees. In particular, we focus our attention on the impact of the traffic produced by each user on a number of performance metrics. The considered environment is the downlink of a CDMA/TDD wireless personal communication system, with two classes of service (real-time, RT, and non-real-time, NRT). The number of users in the system is kept constant during our simulations while the per-user traffic is varied. One of the main contributions is a new heuristic which trades-off system throughput and fairness thereby avoiding situations of extreme unfairness or poor throughput which arise in channel-dependent and deadline-based scheduling policies, respectively. This investigation can help in the design of joint strategies for call admission, flow control and dynamic channel allocation, which is still an open problem for 3G radio resource management.
