Abstract :
A predictive control method for the DC-link voltage of a voltage source converter (VSC) with active front end and minimal DC-link capacitor is proposed. The DC-link voltage is controlled by a state controller using a feed forward signal from the machine controller. The load machine is controlled with the field-oriented controller. By dynamic transient (sudden load change or line disturbance...) the linear controllers cannot keep fast the DC-link voltage inside a tolerable range. An additional predictive controller has been developed. It comes into operation when in the next modulation interval the predicted DC-Link voltage would exceed its limits. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method
