Abstract :
Summary form only given. A nonlinear damping controller is proposed for the suppression of mechanical vibrations in two-mass-model (2MM) elastic systems. The nonlinear speed controller is designed and shaped to provide optimum response of the load speed under transient and steady state operating conditions i.e. minimum response time and minimum overshoot. The synthesis method which determines the nonlinearity to be inserted into the control system is based on a phase trajectory (response characteristic) in a phase space, defined in terms of system error (speed) and derivative of error (acceleration). After the synthesis, the next step is to produce building blocks properly connected together and yielding a control system the behavior of which is expressed by the synthesized differential equation. The control scheme comprises a primary load speed feedback loop with a nonlinear controller in which a term proportional to the product of the second derivative of error and a nonlinear function of the absolute error is added to the torque reference signal, which is the output of a proportional plus derivative controller.
