Abstract
Measurements of the beam sizes at the SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) linear collider are made using probes of carbon filament; the beams are also used to probe each other. Some of the difficulties encountered in implementing these techniques are discussed. The principal difficulty with the weak beamstrahlung signal lies in its low average critical energy. It is emphasized that the width of the beamstrahlung emission peak is controlled in good approximation only by the transverse dimensions of the beams
