Abstract :
Recently, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) and TIA-TR45.5 have been considering proposals using multiple codes to provide high-speed data services in IS-95 CDMA systems. Though some aspects of the high-speed CDMA performance have been studied previously, the impact of bursty data traffic dynamics has not been fully investigated. This paper evaluates the high-speed CDMA system performance with mixed voice and bursty data traffic in the presence of shadow fading. The simulation results suggest that a burst/call admission policy based on both data subscriber location and data/voice traffic loads is required for good performance. In addition, the conventional analytical model based on mean values may be too optimistic and the analysis assuming that the data subscribers are always transmitting may be too pessimistic to evaluate the system performance
