Abstract :
A novel injection scheme to a compact storage ring using a pulsed quadrupole magnet (Q-magnet) is calculated. The pulsed magnet was used to create a half-resonance condition during the injection period. The calculation indicates that effective injection and low emittance of the injected and stored beam after the injection period could be achieved by optimizing injection angle, pulse length, and timing. The calculation shows that a high injection efficiency, more than 90%, is possible from a linear accelerator of 0.8-μs pulse length and with a pulsed Q-magnet of about 8-μs pulse length. It is concluded that, using the proposed method, the technical difficulties connected with the pulse generator and the field uniformity of the bending magnet could be reduced
