Abstract :
In this paper, the performance of various network assisted power, packet segmentation and spreading gain control schemes that can achieve uplink power efficiency and high packet throughput in a DS-CDMA based wireless data system is evaluated. These schemes maximize both a utility function, defined for each mobile terminal, and the overall system packet throughput simultaneously by adjusting the target signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in the base station receiver, packet length and spreading gain in the terminal, according to the existing number of active mobile users. Simulation results show that the network assisted power and spreading gain control scheme (NAP-GC) has the best trade-off for performance and complexity with minimal performance degradation compared to the ideal scheme that is based on network assisted power packet segmentation and spreading gain control (NAP-GSC).
