Abstract
A circuit model for the membrane of the input region of a neuron is developed for SPICE simulation. The model incorporates multiple synaptic inputs, which arise from the spatial distribution of transmitter-gated ion channels in the postsynaptic membrane. The activation of groups of ion channels is simulated in a temporally distributed sequence. The circuit provides a plausible representation of spatial and temporal processing in an individual neuron and thereby can serve as a model for developing a sophisticated processing element in a biological neural network
