Abstract :
This paper presents a novel playout algorithm to improve VoIP speech quality at the receiver. The playout times of the voice packets are calculated using adaptive estimation of network jitter. In contrast to previous methods, the weighting factor βk of network delay variance is dynamically adjusted to estimate optimal network jitter. The proposed algorithm reduces buffering delay and loss of the arriving packet, by calculating the playout time in the order of the packets arriving at the receiver. Thus, it improves VoIP speech quality.
