Abstract :
Beginning with the Gibbs´ thermodynamic equation for electrocapillary action at a charged interface between two phases, it is possible to derive an interfacial model for piezoelectricity. This model is applied to the situation in a poled material like PVDF where the synergistic interaction between polarization in the crystallite phases and trapped charge in the amorphous phases leads to a system of charged interfaces which not only stabilize the polarization but also become the sources of piezoelectricity
