  • Abstract
This paper describes impact of antenna directivity for carrier sensing on system throughput in high density wireless LAN (WLAN) using adaptive directional antenna. Adaptive directional antenna is effective to improve system throughput of WLAN, however it is necessary to clear the impact of antenna directivity used for carrier sensing in CSMA based WLAN since directional antenna may increase packet collisions due to a hidden terminal problem. Assuming IEEE802.11n SISO mode OFDM PHY and infrastructure mode WLAN deployment, the impact of antenna directivity for carrier sensing is evaluated in various WLAN deployment density. Simulation results show that the directional antenna carrier sensing outperforms the omnidirectional antenna carrier sensing.
