Abstract :
A simple genetic algorithm is applied for the tuning of centralized and decentralized controllers for non-square multivariable system. The knowledge of the system is used to improve the search of genetic algorithms. All the loops are first tuned independently using direct synthesis method. A detuning factor of 5 is used to get the range of controller parameters. This method is applied to a non-square mixing tank process (2 outputs & 3 inputs) system. Both centralized and decentralized controllers are designed by the optimization method. The proposed centralized controller tuned by the genetic algorithm gives the best performance when compared to the decentralized controller and other analytical methods.
