Abstract :
The number of mobile Internet users has been rapidly increasing. With a variety of emerging services, the mobile environments are expected to play a more important role in the future. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model to analyze the average total cost for quantitatively assessing the effectiveness of ID/LOC separation scheme in supporting mobility. Our model takes into account the source mobility as well as the destination mobility. We also propose the average total cost based on the mobility support protocols such as MIP and PMIP. We provide the criterion for judgment of cost-effectiveness by comparing the average total cost of typical ID/LOC separation schemes and the one of the mobility support protocols.
