Abstract :
The demand for high speed wireless communications is constantly increasing. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a modulation technique that can be used to address this demand as it performs well in fading channels. However, OFDM has one significant drawback, the potential for a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). This paper presents a novel approach to reducing the PAPR using a modified repeat-accumulate (RA) code and signal clipping. We show that it is possible to reduce the probability of the PAPR exceeding 6dB to 1% with a BER of 10-5 at an SNR of 5.8dB.
