Abstract :
We address the inverse scattering problem of recovering the position and the shape of unknown buried objects starting form the knowledge of scattered field once a known probing electromagnetic field impinges on the region under test. We refer to "strong scatterers" as representative of both perfect conductors and voids. The inversion algorithm searches for the unknown contour of the (electric, for metallic objects, magnetic, for voids) current density induced on the object surface. Under the Kirchhoff or physical optics (PO) approximation a linear inverse problem is faced and the singular value decomposition (SVD) tool is exploited for analyzing and solving it.
