Abstract
The paper introduces a multimedia project at Ball State University. The purpose of the project is to develop multimedia software as teaching supplementary tools. Several packages of software have been developed for the beginning courses of the Chinese and Japanese languages. There are four main components in teaching the courses: pronunciation, conversation, writing, and grammar. The current goal of the project is to develop a package of software for each component in both Chinese and Japanese, of which some have been completed. The paper discusses the structure and the design of each package separately
