Abstract :
IETF suggested MIPv6 and HMIPv6 to provide the mobility support for the IPv6 based environment. HMIPv6 proposed a mobility anchor point to reduce the BU cost caused by the BU process toward the HA. However, HMIPv6 has a problem in the high mobility environment because of the frequent BU processes. This paper proposes a selective MAP binding scheme to reduce the number of unnecessary local BU process in the HMIPv6 based networks where the MN moves at high speed. This scheme has novelty of skipping the local BU process, thereby reducing the total number of local BU and decreasing the power consumption of MN at the same time. We perform OPNET simulations and make a comparison of performance between the proposed scheme and the traditional HMIPv6.
