Abstract
A novel piezoelectric tube-based ultrasonic motor is presented. Selected areas at the ends of the piezoelectric tube generate forces along the circumferential direction to drive rotors to rotate. Bi-directional motion is achieved by switching the bending direction. Only one driving signal is needed to drive the motor. Prototypes 6.6 mm in diameter were fabricated and achieved a maximum no-load speed of 187 RPM and a maximum torque of 468 μNm using a driving voltage of ±50V at a frequency of 24.7 kHz.
