Abstract :
The line-start synchronous reluctance motor (LSSynRM) could be a new high efficiency single phase motor using reluctance torque. However, LSSynRM has unbalanced magnetic circuit caused by flux barriers and various shapes of conductor bars when it starts. As a result, this motor may generate unstable starting torque. The authors proposed rotor design criteria to improve starting performance of the LSSynRM. Design variables are the number and the shape of the conductor bars. The result is compared with initial prototype and single-phase induction motor
