Abstract
The spread of mobile phones equipped with a GPS (Global Positioning System) capability has opened up the possibility of services that provide information appropriate for the particular location of the user. However, the levels of precision and stability of GPS in mobile phones are not so high that the user needs to undertake a complex process to obtain information he/she really needs. In this paper, we propose a method of extracting the user´s interest and preference from GPS log information that records the user´s movements over a long period of time. Specifically, we propose an algorithm for capturing the user´s action history (movements, positions where he/she was, and the facilities where he/she stayed for some time) from his/her GPS log information, and evaluate the algorithm through experiments with a prototype we have developed.
