Abstract
A method for transfer function analysis of sensory receptors, introduced by A.S. French (1971) in his study of insect mechanoreceptors, has been applied to individual type I mechanoreceptor domes in cat hairy skin. Transfer and coherence function estimates were generated from spectral and cross-spectral estimates of a dome´s sampled stimulus and response signals. Single-dome results closely matched those for the tactile spine of the cockroach as well as those for a simple threshold model of the receptor
