Abstract
Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is a shunt-connected converter. STATCOM regulates voltage in the transmission line by controlling the current rapidly. This article proposes a new STATCOM current controller for voltage regulation. The new method has been tested for a step increase in current reference. Capacitor Voltage of STATCOM can be controlled by method of Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). Matrix coefficients are selected based on genetic algorithm method. Matlab has been used to simulate this new control method. The results show an improvement in current control response in a short response time.
