Abstract :
The development of a new compact uniplanar antenna operating from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz for ultra-Wideband (UWB) systems is presented. The antenna overcomes potential problems caused by the coupling between the feed and antenna and meets the requirements for UWB applications, such as ultra-wide bandwidth, reasonable efficiency, satisfactory radiation properties, and linear phase characteristics. It occupies only 1.2 in times 1.4 in on a Duroid substrate having 0.025-in thickness and relative dielectric constant of 10.2. The antenna has excellent time-domain performance particularly crucial for UWB time-domain impulse applications. Its planar structure facilitates integration with printed-circuit UWB transmitters and receivers.
