Abstract
This paper presents the requirements on a mobile phone base station radio performance laboratory with respect to electromagnetic interference from nearby transmitters. The main threat is base stations and mobile phones that use the same frequencies as their own system during receiver performance measurements. The threats and coupling ways to the base station receiver are analyzed theoretically and verified experimentally. The result is a recommended requirement of the shielding effectiveness needed to protect the laboratory. A common solution to this problem is to use a shielded room with a shielding effectiveness of 100 dB up to a few GHz. A more economical solution is possible if the shielding effectiveness can be calculated by the method presented in this paper
