Abstract :
An analysis and design procedure is presented for a power converter which includes the main loss mechanisms. The analysis is used to examine the principal design tradeoffs and operating limits of the topology, in particular the choice of device, the efficiency and the maximum operating frequency. To illustrate the theoretical results, the design and evaluation is described of a 50 W low-voltage prototype operating in the region of 15 MHz. To facilitate this high operating frequency, a novel gate drive circuit is employed. An overall full-load efficiency of 83% is reported for the prototype converter
