Abstract :
The authors describes an adapter card that is designed to implement the distributed computing concepts in a very-large-scale-integrated (VLSI) chip. This design combines the advantages of both distributed computing implementation and VLSI technology for optimum speed and efficiency. The author also describes the state machines that are used in the VLSI chip to support the data rates required by the adapter card housing the VLSI chip. The adapter card is used to communicate with the NCP (network control program) to transfer data between the main store of a communication controller and the communication network
