Abstract
In this paper, we present the applications of linear multiple regression modeling for use in a decision support system, the Intelligent Orientation Detection System (IODS), to detect when a pilot is flying erratically. The experiments presented in this paper tested the hypothesis that using a multiple regression model to predict the future state of the aircraft could be used to assist the pilot in avoiding and/or recovering from dangerous situations. The Intelligent Orientation Detection System (IODS) differs from previous attempts at addressing spatial disorientation in that adaptive statistical techniques will be utilized to detect when a pilot is spatially disoriented.
