Abstract :
The development of a fuzzy expert system is proposed for optimizing natural gas pipeline operation. This expert system employs fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic to manage the uncertainties and imprecision in the pipeline operations (caused by humans) as well as in the system. Fuzzy linear regression analysis is used to extract some of the information to develop the knowledge base of the expert system. Other information used to develop the knowledge base is acquired from both human experts and a simulation of the natural gas pipeline system
