Abstract :
This paper presents an implementation technique for realizing non-natural impedances. The technique is based on DRS (direct reactance syntheses), which differs from others, BVI (bootstrap variable inductance) and the VAPAR (variable active passive reactance), in the sense that it is based on the terminal voltage and, for this reason, current tracking is not needed. Any DC/AC voltage source converter can be used to implement the proposed control strategy. In order to validate the proposed method, experimental results have been obtained with an asymmetrical cascaded multilevel converter, which is suitable for higher power applications, such as the synthesis of negative inductance for realizing series compensation of transmission lines
