Abstract
Temperature compensation of a 1-GHz VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator), stabilized with a SSBW/STW (surface skimming bulk waves/surface transverse wave) combined mode resonator filter, has been performed at 128 frequencies. Analog and digital compensation techniques have been used. The analog compensation is common for all frequencies and the digital one is individual. The overall instability for each of the frequencies is ±2 ppm over the temperature range of -30 to +60°C. The compensation circuitry guarantees zero warm-up time of the oscillator, is readily realized in CMOS technology, and has DC power consumption of 16 mW from a 5 V source
