Abstract
The committee of design for environment (DfE committee) was launched in 1994 responding to the reguestfrom the then Ministry of international Trade and Industry (MITI). The Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI) has been supporting the committee activities as the secretary office. The committee has been active in collecting up-to-date information related to the DfE commitments and environmental issues in other countries, and in particular, working with the feasible promotion program of DfE for the management and technical staffs in industries who are willing to learn the DfE concepts and to launch the practice. The task of the committee involves; how to train technicians in minor enterprises, registration of tutorial experts, and foundation of an appropriate administrative office. The committee is also trying to play a role of dispatcher, demonstrating high standards of Japanese performances in this field to all over the world
