Abstract
Describes the selection of a practical method for estimating fractal dimensions of textured images. The methods due to Sarkar and Chaudhuri (1992), Peleg et al. (1984), and Jin et al. (1993) are compared in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Experiments show that the method due to Jin et al. with its scale limit criterion performs best. It is then used to characterize the severity of damage in kidney tissue sections
