Abstract
Since March of 1998, the Taiwanese government has run its own national compulsory take-back and recycling system for electrical home appliances, such as TV sets, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and computers. This take-back and recycling system in Taiwan was a great success. However, there is some weakness which needs to be addressed from the point of view of product eco-design tasks of electrical home appliances. This paper describes the current situation of Taiwan´s take-back and recycling system for electrical home appliances. Problems in recycling and disassembly of electrical home appliances in Taiwan are discussed. Several proposed ideas to overcome these difficulties and enhance the product eco-design tasks of electrical home appliances are presented
