  • Abstract
This paper analyzes the impact of hybrid multilevel modulation techniques on the semiconductor devices power losses of a cascaded multilevel inverter. Based on this analysis, a new modulation strategy is proposed to minimize the power losses and to allow the use of front-end uncontrolled rectifiers without modifying the total harmonic distortion of output voltage inverter. This paper also develops a comparative evaluation among the new proposal modulation technique and other modulation strategies regarding to the converter power losses for all operating range
