Abstract
This paper illustrates how modern design software packages can be linked together to aid the design of high specification electrical machines where the thermal rating and performance is critical. First the software is tested against the measured performance of an actual machine to validate accuracy of the linked electromagnetic and thermal software then various parameters are tested to illustrate the key points in producing a successful machine thermal design
