Abstract :
The properties relevant to the use of a microlens array in a projection LCD device are examined and discussed. In particular, the effect of the lens geometry, shape, focal length, cover glass thickness, and beam spread angle, are related to the optical performance as measured by the improvement in light transmission through the LCD. Experimental data suggest that the performance of a lens array with hexagonal cross-section and a focal length of 0.7 mm can lead to an 80% increase in the light through-put
