Abstract :
Analytical as well as experimental studies of the effects of waveform distortions on electrical appliances are important in power quality studies. A test bed for assessing the thermal behavior of induction motors is proposed in the paper. The test bed provides a flexible and controllable source of waveform distortions. The preliminary experimental results show the stability and accuracy of the test bed. Hitherto, the test bed has only been used for stationary distortions, but will be used for time-varying distortions in the near future. The test bed is envisioned to quantify the effects of time-varying, non-stationary voltage waveform distortions on the thermal response of induction motors.
